Newsworthy event (Main event):
|
1. The spread of coronavirus in the global
food industry. As the world's population was plunged into lockdown, social
media became filled with stories of shortages at local supermarkets. Several
ways the coronavirus pandemic has an impact on food supply chains around the
world, such as milk down the drain, crops go to waste, not enough workers,
changing our shopping habits, the stock is sitting unused.
|
|
2. The coronavirus emerged in only December
last year, but already the world is dealing with a pandemic of the virus and
the disease it causes - Covid-19. For most, the disease is mild, but some
people die. The process of the virus attacks the body, among them incubation
period, minor illnesses, severe illness, critical illness.
|
|
|
3. Coronavirus has plunged the world into uncertainty and the constant news about the pandemic can feel relentless. All
of this is taking its toll on people's mental health, particularly those
already living with conditions like anxiety and OCD. Being concerned about
the news is understandable, but for many people, it can make existing mental
health problems worse.
|
|
|
Background
event (Elaboration)
|
1. The spread of the coronavirus caused
huge losses for various industries and workers. As American dairy farmers,
the largest dairy cooperative in the country estimates that farmers must
dispose of 3.7 million gallons (14 million liters) of milk every day due to
supply line disruptions, but this problem is not only seen in the US, with
dairy farmers in The British are asking for government help because of their
own surplus problem. In contrast to Germany, some time ago Germany made an exception to the locking of its country to allow thousands of Romanian and Polish
workers to fly in to help spring harvest, especially by picking strawberries
and asparagus.
|
|
2. During incubation, the virus works by entering your body's cells and then hijacking it. The incubation period, the time between infection and the first symptoms appear, varies greatly, but on average is five days.
Mild disease is experienced by most people, COVID-19 is
a mild infection for eight out of 10 people who get it and the core symptoms are fever and cough. Body aches, sore throats, and headaches are all possible, but not guaranteed.
If the disease develops, it is caused by the body's
immune system overreacting to the virus.
It is estimated that around 6% of cases become
critically ill. At this point, the body begins to fail and there is a real
chance of death. The problem is the immune system is now spinning out of
control and causing damage throughout the body.
The first two patients who died at Jinyintan Hospital
in Wuhan, China, detailed in the journal Lancet Medical, appeared to be
healthy, even though they were long-term smokers and that would weaken their
lungs.
|
|
|
3. As Anxiety UK's Nicky Lidbetter
explains, the fear of being out of control and unable to tolerate uncertainty
are common characteristics of many anxiety disorders. So it's understandable
that many individuals with pre-existing anxiety are facing challenges at the
moment.
To overcome this, limit the amount of time you spend
reading or watching things that don't make you feel better. Maybe decide at a
certain time to check the news.
Break from social media and mute things that triggered
the fake news, such as silence keywords that might trigger on Twitter and
stop following or deactivating your account.
Mute the WhatsApp group and hide Facebook posts and
feeds if you find it too excessive.
Stay connected with people, staying in touch with the
people you care about will help maintain good mental health during a long
period of self-isolation.

3. Disney's Broadway anniversary concert to

|
Newsworthy event (Main event):
|
1. Zoom launches new steps as security
concerns increase. Zoom videoconferencing platform launched a number of steps
intended to stem criticism of how it handles user security.
|
|
2. How
long have you been contagious when you have coronavirus? How long can people who have SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, transmit it to others? How long to get sick? How long have you been contagious? Why do some people rub off longer? When are you no longer contagious? Should you be tested again before returning to the community?
|
|
|
3. Disney Broadway commemorative concert for streaming COVID-19 relief funds. The one-night event was held on November
4, 2019, at the New Amsterdam Theater, to celebrate the silver anniversary of
Disney's arrival on Broadway. At that time, the charity concert raised more
than $ 570,000 for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS.
|
|
|
Background
event (Elaboration)
|
1. Zoom security improvements also include
a toolbar to easily access features such as locking chats from strangers and
making meeting password requirements the default setting.
At the end of the week, paid account holders will be able
to choose the area in which their data is transferred during their session in
a step that appears to be aimed at concerns over information that might be
spread.
|
|
2. The incubation period is the time
between exposure to the virus and the onset of symptoms. For COVID-19, the
incubation period ranges from 1 to 14 days. But most people who experience
symptoms of COVID-19 do it 4 to 6 days after exposure.
The infectious period means that your time can spread the virus to other people. For COVID-19, there is emerging evidence to show
that the period of infection can start 1 to 3 days before you develop symptoms.
Some people are infectious longer because usually with
a virus, the higher the viral load (the more the virus circulates in the
body), the higher the risk of transmission through known transmission routes.
If someone has been symptom-free for 3 days and they
developed their first symptoms more than 10 days before, they are no longer considered contagious.
|
|
|
3. More than 20 Broadway producers have offered a $ 1 million challenge match to double the impact of donations to the emergency fund, which was launched back in March. The benefit concert will feature performances by 79 Broadway star performers.

Newsworthy event (Main event):
|
1. NASA announced on Friday that a SpaceX
the rocket would send two American astronauts to the International Space Station
on May 27, the first crewed spaceflight from the U.S. in nearly a decade.
|
|
2. COVID-19 has a profound mental health impact.
The coronavirus pandemic is likely to have a profound and widespread impact
on global mental health as billions struggle to overcome isolated lives and
the surge in anxiety.
|
|
|
3. Scientists have observed the largest supernova - a star explosion - that has ever been detected, the massive death of large stars up to 100 times more massive than our sun in distant galaxies.
Supernovas, which release twice the energy of other
star explosions observed to date, occur about 4.6 billion light-years from
Earth in a relatively small galaxy, scientists say. One light-year is the distance that light travels in a year, 9.5 trillion miles (9.5 trillion km).
|
|
|
Background
event (Elaboration)
|
1. The astronauts will be sent to the ISS
on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
Astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley will be launched to the ISS aboard SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft. They will lift off at 4:32 p.m. (2032 GMT) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, NASA
said.
Since July 2011, the United States has relied on
Russian Soyuz rockets to send U.S. astronauts to the ISS.
|
|
2. The survey, which was conducted among
more than 3,000 people in the UK, showed various fears arising from this
pandemic including increased anxiety, the effects of social isolation, fear
of becoming mentally unwell and accessing care if needed.
The authors call for government funding to form a special working group consisting of people with experience of mental health
impacts to ensure research and care are prioritized.
|
|
|
3. Astrophysicist Matt Nicholl of
The University of Birmingham in the UK says two very large stars - each around 50
times the mass of the sun - may have joined forces to make one very massive
star about 1,000 years before the explosion. They have become part of what is
called a binary system with two stars that are bound to one another.
The combined star exploded in a supernova, officially
named SN2016aps, in a very dense and hydrogen-rich envelope.
The researchers, who observed the explosion for two
years to reduce it to 1 percent of its maximum brightness, said it might be a very rare example of a "pulsational pair-instability" supernova.
